The rise in the number of people experiencing colds in the summer months seems alarming. Almost everywhere you go people are sniffling, sneezing, coughing, and wheezing. Could there be another cause to all this warm-weather cold frenzy?

The Never-Ending Cold Season

It seems in years past that there was some sort of designated cold season. It varied by climate but was generally thought to occur mostly during the colder, indoor months. It was believed that shared proximity brought increased sharing of cold germs. It seems these days that people run around with cold symptoms all year long. It is no fun if you happen to be one of the lucky few.

When Symptoms Persist for Months

A typical cold will last anywhere from one to two weeks and you will see a diminishing level of symptoms. If you are experiencing cold-like symptoms for months at a time and you are spending very little time outdoors, it is more than likely a case of mold exposure in your home. If you are experiencing a stuffy and runny nose, sneezing, cough, scratchy throat, red, irritated eyes and a lack in fever, it is another sign that it is an allergic reaction to something in the environment. THe miserable experience of a stuffed and runny nose make it nearly impossible to sniff out areas of the home that might have mold. Look in areas that are prone to moisture for other signs of mold. Dark spots and patches of green are signs of mold. Ask a friend or family member if they can smell a musty odor in these areas.
